Durban Municipality warns of planned water interruptions

Most of Pinetown and Westville are expected to be affected and suffer low water pressure or no water in their taps especially towards the evening.

RESIDENTS in Pinetown and other areas which are supplied with water by the Mt Moriah Reservoir have been warned to prepare for planned water interruption from 7am to 7pm tomorrow, (15 September).

The following areas might experience poor pressure or no water towards latter times of the shutdown period, amid the construction: Westville, Cowies Hill, Pinetown CBD, Sarnia, Ashley, Mosley Park, Paradise Valley, Nazareth, Caversham, Dawncliffe, Clermont, New Germany Industrial, parts of KwaDabeka.

“EThekwini Municipality wishes to inform residents of Pinetown and surrounding areas about the possible water interruption for Mt Moriah Reservoir which will affect the supply of water in some of the areas in the Inner West of Durban,” said a statement which was circulated on Sunday, 13 September.

The bulk supply from Umgeni water (Durban Heights treatment works) to eThekwini Municipality (Mt Moriah reservoir) will be isolated for a period of 12 hours.

This will be done to allow Umgeni water to break in the current line and tie in on the Pinetown suction lines so that it can be supplied from both reservoir 1 and 2 at Durban Heights. According to the city, this will ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply to eThekwini Municipality’s Mt Moriah reservoir.

“During this infrastructure development, there will be zero water entering the reservoir, as such, downstream reservoirs will have limited system input volume.

“EThekwini Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused during this period and requests residents to use water sparingly.”
