Emmaus resident raises concerns over overflowing manhole
A concerned resident, who has been residing in the area for 26 years, said he believes the small pipes which were used to improve the flow through the sewer is one of the main issues that's contributing to the problem.
AN EMMAUS resident has expressed his fears of a possible ecological disaster due to the overflowing manholes in the area.

Emmaus is a small township area just outside Westmead. Thulani Fakazi, who has been residing in the area for 26 years, said the problem started four years ago.
He believes the small pipes which were used to improve the flow through the sewer is one of the main issues that’s contributing to the problem.
According to Fakazi, the problem escalated after residents started using the ablution facilities as rubbish bins.
“The waste department should host workshops to teach people about the correct ways to dispose of litter,” said Fakazi.
The resident said this was a huge health hazard.
“There are small children playing around, the filth runs into some houses,” he said.
To make matters worse, the sewer leads to a river nearby.
“This is also affecting the wildlife. We need to preserve their habitats for the future generations of wildlife so humans can also enjoy it,” said Fakazi.
The Highway Mail tried on numerous times to obtain a comment from the municipality, but did not receive any response by the time of going to print.
