Determined to steer the way for other young people like himself who have far more to offer than the hand life has dealt them, Mhlanga is excited about the latest developments in his life, which includes a new record deal.

“My social worker at the Malvern child care centre told Venan about me,” said Mhlanga. “He met with me and gave my music a listen that’s when he was convinced that I’m the next big thing,” said the beaming rapper.

Last year Mhlanga released his first music video, some of which was filmed in and around the home of a friend.

Studio

Durban’s newest record label, Bosslife Entertainment is a labour of love for Venan Reddy, 38, who met Mhlanga through a social worker from Malvern Child and Youth Care Centre (MCYCC).

In addition to working with Verge, Reddy is also working with other aspiring musicians.  Verge, as he prefers to be called, is currently working on his first single in the the recording studio.

“My first single under the new record label that will be released is called, Out the Mud. It’s a trap song,” he explained.

According to Wikipedia, “Trap is a sub genre of Hip Hop music that originated in the Southern United States during the early 1990s. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang word “trap”, which refers to a place in which drugs are sold illegally.”  However this 20-year-old is not interested in the drug culture associated by so many in Hip Hop music.

Positive influence

He would far rather help other youngsters find a beneficial outlet for their energies to help them stay away from harmful influences.
