Team power: Stokers and Robin Hood partner up for soup collab

The non-profit organisation hopes to deliver 500kgs of food each day to families in need for the next three months.

IN an effort to help provide nutritious meals to those in need during the nationwide lockdown, Stokers Arms has joined forces with charity organisation, The Robin Hood Foundation (RHF) to cook thousands of kilograms of hearty soup and sandwiches.

Tony Dickinson and Guy Stone have offered to help bring to life the foundation’s Chicken Stew for the Soul campaign.

Robyn Keulder, Cindy Norcott and Liesel Kriegisch prep food for the soup.

The soup kitchen is the brainchild of the foundation’s founder, Cindy Norcott, who said her vision was to prepare big buckets of stew that would be distributed to needy families.

Norcott said they have already sent the equivalent of more than 1.1 million meals into the community since the implementation of lockdown.

“This was made possible by the phenomenal community support yet the effects of the continued restrictions have been weighing heavily on my heart. We really want to make an even bigger impact in our community, the need is so great and we want to be sure to be doing all we can to help alleviate the struggle so many are facing,” said Norcott.

She said their aim is to get the wholesome chicken stew to about 30 000 people within the next few months and they would love for the community to help.

She added that they were so grateful to Tony and Guy from Stokers for their support as well as the local companies that have served with them for years and want to help make a difference.

“We would love any assistance or help our community wants to offer, whether it be getting involved, networking or donating. Every gesture of kindness will make the biggest difference to the people we will be reaching through our community partners,” appealed Norcott.

Over the past 15 years, the foundation has built trusted relationships in areas such as Pinetown, Embo, Shongweni and the Valley of 1000 hills. Each day, between Monday to Thursday, a different one its partner organisations will collect the cooked soup and sandwiches and distribute them on the same day to families in need.
