Krantzkloof Nature Reserve shuts its gates to public again

The reserve was only permitted to open its doors again to the public on Monday, 8 June as the country moved to level 3 lockdown and restrictions were eased.

EZEMVELO KZN Wildlife informed the public that as of 1 August, the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve is closed to the public.

In its report, it cited the reason for the closure was an instruction from Metro Police due to safety concerns and the non-compliance of visitors to the Covid-19 requirements, as laid down in the Disaster Management Act.

The Disaster Management Act’s regulations for alert level 4 during the Covid-19 lockdown, as per Section 24, published in Government Gazette 43258, saw the reserve remain closed.

As the country moved to level 3 lockdown and restrictions eased, the reserve re-opened to the public on Monday, 8 June.

On the reserve’s Facebook page, Grant Wade, said, “It was absolute chaos today, I was more than impressed with the Metro Police’s response. We are all in this together, nobody is more important than the other, and the safety of the public in general is what is most important.”

While Raylene Captain-Hasthibeer said, “Here’s a thought. Limit access to the park, possibly have Metro on the weekends to issue fines and help enforce the rules. How on earth do people still think they have the right to resources???”

The closure will remain in place until further notice and updates will be posted on its Facebook page and website, https://kknr.org.za/
