Durban’s Chic Mamas keep Madiba’s legacy alive

Help Chic Mamas kick-start reopening of schools as many parents who have lost their income due to the Covid-19 pandemic will not be able to afford school fees.

IT takes one small gift to give a child hope and in line with former president, Nelson Mandela’s vision of all children having access to good education, the Chic Mamas Do Care Durban are raising funds to help parents who cannot afford to send their children to school this Mandela Month.

The organisation consists of a group of enthusiastic women who believe in the importance of Early Childhood Development (ECD).

Durban Chic Mama coordinator, Jenny Du Bois, said many parents who have lost their income due to the Covid-19 pandemic will not be able to afford school fees.

“Our heart is sore for every child who needs to get back to school and we are looking for ways to secure sponsorship for our 110 preschoolers whose parents will not be able afford the R160 monthly fee. To be able to kick-start the first month will be a game changer, and help to cover salaries for the teachers and provide some financial relief to the parents,” said Du Bois.

She added that the aim was to get companies sponsoring a child for 10 months.

This, according to Du Bois, would enable the child to have access to a stimulating environment.

Sponsorships or donations can be made by electronic bank transfer.
