Police shoot-out leads to closure of M7

At 2.30pm the scene was still active and drivers planning to use the route were advised to expect some delays, or, if possible, use an alternative route.

THE infamous M7 was partially closed on Tuesday afternoon following an alleged shoot-out between police and several suspects.

The exchange of gunfire is said to have ended with an accident on the M7, east bound, just before the N2 interchange in Hillary.

According to Shawn Herbst, spokesperson for Netcare 911, paramedics responded to the accident at around 12.36pm.

“Reports from the scene indicate that the driver of a light motor vehicle with two other occupants lost control on the downhill, rolling the vehicle several times.”

Bystanders at the accident scene alleged that the occupants of the vehicle were being pursued by law enforcement and had allegedly engaged in a gunfight with police, added Herbst.
