Covid-19 case confirmed at Rossburgh licensing and testing grounds

The employee tested positive for the coronavirus ahead of her operation this weekend.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport confirmed that the temporal closure of the Rossburgh Drivers Licence and Testing Centre (DLTC) yesterday was due to one of the staff members testing positive for Covid-19.

The local testing centre opened on Sunday, 5 June, to process the backlog created by the national lockdown in March.

“The temporal closure and disruption of services with effect from 6 July 2020 is as a result of precautionary measures that need to be taken by the department to allow health workers to conduct an assessment and screening of all staff members working in this office,” said the department in a statement.

The employee, before her operation this weekend, received a request from her doctor to have a Covid-19 test done before the procedure. The official tested positive for Covid-19.

“The station and the DLTC has since been closed, as part of Covid-19 health and safety protocols and guidelines. The staff and all those who were in contact with the employee will be tested as well,” said the department.

Once given the green light to resume operations from the Department’s Occupational Health and Safety team, all other services rendered by the Rossburgh DLTC will re-open and members of the public will be advised accordingly.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport urged members of the public and car dealerships to use other DLTCs, post offices and municipalities operating as registering authorities.

“Members of the public are also urged not to panic as there is a 90-day grace period approved by the Minister of Transport for the renewal of licences that have expired,” said the department.
