Two arrested in New Germany armed robbery

A third suspect evaded arrest.

TWO men were arrested after reaction officers of a Durban-based security company thwarted the efforts of armed robbers in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to Andreas Mathios, media liaison officer for Blue Security, the alarm of a wine distribution company was activated at around 3am.

Despite the suspects blocking initial access to the property the reaction officers quickly found an alternative entry point.

“It was also established that the onsite security guard had been tied up with a suspect standing over him. Unsure whether or not the suspect was armed, a reaction officer immediately ordered him to surrender. As soon as he obliged the onsite guard stood up and assisted the armed response officer in handcuffing the suspect,” Mathios said.

The second reaction officer located and confronted the other two suspects in the business premises where they had already loaded laptops, computer screens and computer boxes into a green garbage bin, added Mathios.

“The suspects scattered in different directions in an effort to evade capture,” he said.

One of the suspects managed to evade arrest by fleeing through a hole in the fence, which the suspects had cut to gain entry to the property, while the second suspect surrendered.

Multiple cases of liquor were also recovered at the scene and a case of armed robbery had been opened.
