Three of the suspects are linked to housebreakings in the Crestholme and Waterfall area.

FIVE suspects were arrested in the Upper Highway area on Friday in a combined intelligence-driven operation between Blue Security and Hillcrest SAPS.

According to a Blue Security Highway Tactical ambassador, three of the suspects are linked to housebreakings in the Crestholme and Waterfall area.

“The remaining two men were arrested in connection with housebreaking incidents in the Molweni area,” said the ambassador.

Numerous stolen items were also recovered during the operation which was carried out by the Blue Security Highway Tactical Team and Hillcrest SAPS.

The suspects were detained at Hillcrest SAPS for further processing.

He said that these arrests and recoveries were made possible because of vital information received, via the intelligence network, of the whereabouts of the suspects and stolen items.

“As more information is received further arrests will be made. In this way Blue Security will continue to work with the community and police in the fight against crime,” said the ambassador.

In a separate incident, which took place on Monday morning, one suspect was detained after an earlier housebreaking incident in Sarnia.

Blue Security community and media liaison officer, Andreas Mathios said a reaction officer had responded following an alarm activation in the home’s garage.

“During a subsequent patrol of the area two men were later spotted walking up Underwood Road. When confronted one suspect managed to evade being captured by backup while the second suspect was successfully detained,” said Mathios.

The arrested suspect was found carrying a black bag containing a mini hifi, speaker and extension cable. A second bag which was dropped in the chase contained cleaning chemicals, a remote and a screwdriver.

Mathios said these men are linked to multiple housebreakings in the complex and most of the residents have opened cases in connection to the incidents.

“Pinetown SAPS attended the scene and investigations are continuing,” he said.

*For fear of reprisal, the Blue Security tactical ambassador’s name has been removed.
