HIGHBURY Preparatory School celebrated 117 years of ‘Knowing Boys’ on Wednesday, 22 April.

Highbury’s traditional Founders’ Day was rather non-traditional this year.

With schools closed, this year was a first as this exciting day was celebrated online with Highbury@Home.

The day began with a special online chapel service from the headmaster, Roland Lacock, who spoke about Highbury’s founder, Sibella McMillan and shared stories of the school from the time it was founded in 1903.

Lacock’s daughter, Zoey, who attends Highbury’s co-educational pre-primary school, Weavers’ Nest, joined him to blow out the candles on Highbury’s birthday cake.

Once the Highbury boys had completed their online school day, they were encouraged to take part in the Chapel Challenge.

Usually it is a running race from Highbury’s beautiful Chapel to the Dauncey Field but this year, the boys were given a set of 117 activities to do at home to celebrate 117 years.

They had so much fun and felt blessed to still be involved with such a special Highbury day.

There was an outpouring of love from Highbury families, they sang happy birthday, baked cakes, made electronic birthday cards and more.

During this time, we have felt so much ‘togetherness’, even though we are apart, the Highbury community has been filled with love, strength and solidarity.
