Wanted housebreaker nabbed in Westville
The arrested man has numerous cases against him for crimes in Westville and Berea West.
A WANTED housebreaker was arrested in Westville on Monday afternoon by Blue Security’s tactical team.
“The arrest came about after an alert of a housebreaking in progress in Westville on Monday afternoon,” said Blue Security Tactical Ambassador for Moseley and Queensburgh, Andre Engels.
“An observant neighbour saw the suspect attempt to open the side door of the house next door. However, the suspect had already fled by the time the reaction officer responded to the scene,” Engels said.
With a description of the suspect, one of the officers patrolled the area in search of the criminal.
A man walking along Rockdale Avenue was stopped and questioned, but fled when he was asked to sit on the ground.
“He dropped the camp chair he was carrying and began fence hopping,” Engels said.

Fellow tactical team units and members of Metro Police arrived and successfully surrounded and trapped the suspect in a property.
“The suspect was taken back to the scene of the housebreaking where community members identified him as the one who has robbed most of the houses in the area and who has multiple cases against him,” Engels said.
Residents of Berea West also arrived at the scene and identified the suspect.
The man was then handed over to a member from Westville SAPS, arrested and transferred to the police station. The stolen camp chair was also recovered.
“The suspect is a wanted criminal in the area who has been terrorising local residents and his arrest is an extremely satisfying one for the community,” Engels said.
