Armed men prey on DA KZN leader in Westville home

Mncwango reminded people there is still crime in South Africa and residents should keep their doors and gates locked.

THE attack on KZN DA leader, Zwakele Mncwango has reminded him of the seriousness of crime in South Africa.

Mncwango advised people to be cautious and wary of their surroundings during the Covid-19 lockdown.

”Criminals know that people are focusing on the Coronavirus and getting everything sorted before the national shutdown. Even when I was busy talking to a colleague about getting masks, I was approached by armed men,” said Mncwango.

“I had just entered my house in Westville when four armed men jumped out of a white BMW 1 series.”

Mncwango said his streets are very quiet and did not even realise he was being followed.

“The incident took place at 10.50am. When they pointed firearms at me, I went for my remote to press the panic button.

“They might have thought I was getting a gun as they quickly fled the scene,” said Mncwango.

He added that police came to take a statement but were interrupted by reports of a shooting in Cowies Hill.

“From what I have gathered from the crime groups, there was a hijacking involving the same car. I also assume they were after my car and I was fortunate I was not injured during this incident,” he said.
