New Germany roadworks a concern

Ward councillor, Mfanah Qwabe said this development will allow traffic to flow freely once it is completed.

WORKERS have been busy digging up the verge along the road on the corner of Regent Street and Sander Road, but residents feel annoyed as no one has liaised with them about this upgrade work which stops and starts.

One of the concerned residents, Matthews Buthelezi, said as residents they should be notified of upgrades or work in the area as, at the end of the day, it affects them.

“These are very busy roads especially during peak hours. My biggest concern is that they have dug huge holes and there are no barriers and a car could easily fall into that hole should there be an accident,” said Buthelezi.

The damage to the exposed road from rain should also be considered. The pavements have been removed due to those roadworks and Buthelezi also fears for the pedestrians who walk along that road to and from their workplaces.

“There are children who also walk along this road as there is primary school nearby,” he said.

ANC ward 21 councillor, Mfanah Qwabe, said the roadworks are part of a new development. “That cross-road was dangerous and caused issues for those who are new in the area which then resulted in traffic being built up in front of the rapid bus transit station.

“This development will allow traffic to flow freely once it is completed,” he said.
