Westville Rotary celebrates 40 years
Rotarians all joined in celebrating the four decades of the service club's service to the Westville community.
ROTARIANS from the Rotary Club of Westville enjoyed a fun evening when they celebrated the club’s 40th birthday at Westville Country Club recently.
The club, which was chartered in 1980, has seen both the new century and millennium and this year ends their fourth decade of service above self, hard work and good fellowship.
Visiting the club on the occasion of its birthday was DG (district governor) Jaco Stander of Rotary District 9370, along with his wife and fellow Rotarian, Lisa, from Klerksdorp.

PHOTO: Evelyn MorrisThe club, after the requisite speeches and dinner and desert, put on some entertainment in the form of a play which Rotarians and the invited guests acted out without any prior rehearsal which proved a hilarious end to an evening enjoyed by all.

Sue Walker, current president of the club, spoke about the work that Rotary does for the community and gave a short history of the years the club had been in existence. She hands over her chain of office later this year to President Elect, Geoff Dawson.
Also at the event were Laurence and Gail Rae, representing the Westville’s neighbours in the Highway area, the Rotary Club of Pinetown.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebration, DG Stander and President Walker spoke to the Highway Mail about how the service club has changed over the years to become more inclusive and diverse in both its membership and its methodology.
