WBHS teams give it their all

The Westville school claimed a mixed bag of results in their games against Hilton College at the weekend.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School (WBHS) entertained Midlands rivals Hilton College for a competitive day of summer sport at the weekend.

Basketball bounced back this weekend after a tough set of fixtures against College the previous weekend. Of the 14 games played on the court against Hilton, WBHS took the lion’s share of the spoils as the school won 11, drew one and lost two.

With the school’s first and second side away on tour, the U16A game was the showpiece fixture and saw Westville claim a 26 – 24 win. Special mention was made of Westville’s 16B side who were tenacious competitors. Their match display had opposition coaches and referees compliment them and their coaches. Westville won that game 37 – 15.

On the cricket pitch, the 1st XI were formidable with ball-in-hand as they restricted a talented Hilton batting lineup to just 151 runs. Troy Botha and Anthony Dunford notched a commendable 4/29 and 3/22, respectively. This looked to put Westville in a strong position going into lunch. Unfortunately, Westville weren’t able to do the job with the bat and were bowled out for just 101 and gave Hilton a 50-run win.

WBHS’s U14A side secured an incredible win as they bowled out a largely confident Hilton side for 128 runs. Max Robertson guided his side to a massive eight wicket win and ended the day on an unbeaten 51. Westville notched up 128 for two and bowled Hilton out for 128.

Despite a strong and early start for WBHS’s water polo team, Hilton worked their way back to finish the stronger team on the day and the game went to Hilton 5 – 7. The U14B side showed resolve and drew 5 – 5 with Hilton.
