“In the past two weeks, the outpouring of love from the staff and learners has been unbelievable, I felt loved. It made my entire career worthwhile,” she said.

Bailey said she has always wanted her learners to be independent, strong and have good character.

“Many of our learners have done well in life, have achieved things they were told they couldn’t because of their special needs. Many kids that come to Browns have been let down and put down by the mainstream schools. When they get here you start seeing them gain confidence,” said principal Bailey.

She admits it has been a very emotional three weeks. “I have no regrets, I would choose this career all over again,” she said with deep emotion.

When asked about her plans for retirement, the Westville resident said she wants to visit her grandchildren in Australia, play some tennis and join her husband in playing bowls.

“I later plan to join the Catholic women’s league. I will do nothing for the first year, it is dedicated to myself,” said the well-deserving Bailey.

“Lastly, I wish the school well, we have a strong management team, I know they will succeed. I ask for parents’ support. The school serves a good purpose in the community, may they continue to take care of our special needs children,” she added.
