Man arrested for hijacking friend’s bakkie in Pinetown

The victim was stabbed and dropped off on the M13 freeway.

A 43-YEAR-OLD man was arrested by police on Friday, 6 December for hijacking his friend in the Pinetown CBD.

According to Pinetown Cluster communications officer, it is alleged that on Thursday, 5 December, the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his friend (47) in the Pinetown CBD.

“He (the suspect) pulled out a knife and stabbed his friend on the left side of his body. The suspect took the keys from the victim and drove off with the vehicle and the victim was forced onto the passenger seat. On the way, the victim was also robbed of his two cellphones before being dropped off on the M13 freeway,” said Manqele.

A case of carjacking was opened at Pinetown police station and the detectives have begun the investigation.

Manqele said the suspect was arrested in the Kranskop area and the hijacked Isuzu bakkie was also recovered.
