The book revolves around The Accident which almost becomes a character within itself as there are constant references to it and its affect on a family that has been far-reaching.

Catherine’s life seems to have frozen in time since The Accident and her daughter, Julia treads on eggshells around her.

Julia’s response to The Accident and her mother’s emotional withdrawal since, is to seek love and she bungles along causing drama in her wake.

The plot and characterisation is realistic and relatable as you follow the lives of Catherine and Julia to see if they will rise above the tragedy of The Accident or be smothered by it forever.
