Pinetown boys rescue Thor the kitten

Pinetown Boys' High School learners came to the rescue of a missing kitten.

THE Wissing family was devastated when their seven-month-old kitten, Thor went missing recently.

He is a special cat because when he was three months old, he was run over by a car and had a broken pelvis, but recovered. It was worrying that he had not come home said Tanya Wissing.

“We live in the house right next door to Pinetown Boys’ High School and so our first place to look was at the school. We spoke to a very helpful lady at the office and they even made an announcement to the school that if anyone has seen him, to please let his family know,” Wissing said.

“I received a call on Tuesday afternoon to say one of the learners had seen Thor in the parking lot in the morning so when we got home, we started going door-to-door to ask if anyone had seen him and about 30 minutes into our search, we got a call from a fellow tenant on our property to say that some of the learners had spotted Thor on the roof of the school.”

Wissing said they rushed home to find a ladder against the wall that was only just too short for anyone to reach Thor.

“As we were trying to find a longer ladder, one of the learners told us that someone was on the roof to get him.

“This young man, Owami Khathide, was so brave. It was raining and I can only imagine how slippery those tiles must have been. But I think he was more scared of picking Thor up than he was about moving around on the roof. After some very patient coaxing from Owami, Thor got close enough for Owami to pick him up.

“Owami then managed to balance himself well enough to get back to the wall and he came down with our boy. The relief of having Thor safe and sound was incredible and we could not be more grateful to those young men for their help and kindness. It is not every day that a group of young men go out of their way to help strangers.

“It is wonderful to know that there are such kind souls in this world and if it weren’t for these young men, we would still be very worried,” Wissing said.
