4 Wyebank children found hanged, police hunt for father

It is believed, the man first murdered his three children before fetching his stepdaughter from a school in Pinetown and hanged her in a bush in New Germany.

THE Wyebank community is reeling from shock after the gruesome discovery of three children, aged between four and 10, who were found hanged in their home in Wyebank yesterday (Tuesday, 3 September).

Although it is still not clear if it was the mother who found the bodies, Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, said one of their constables received a murder complaint through the police radio and responded to find KwaDabeka police already at the scene.

“It is alleged that two children were hanged in the same bedroom and the third one was found hanged in another room. It is believed that the man first hanged his three children before picking up his stepdaughter, Ayakha from a school in Pinetown.

“She was also found hanging in a bushy area in New Germany following a frantic search by the Wyebank community forum and police,” explained Manqele.

Kuhlekonke Mpungose, aged four, was a learner at Wyebank creche while his siblings, Khwezilekhethelo aged six, and Sipho, 10, were also former learners and still attended the creché aftercare.

A resident said they were very bright children and the family stayed indoors for most of the time.

“The father was known to the community as a very quiet and polite man who greeted everyone. We really do not know what happened, we are shaken by this ordeal,” said a resident.

The man has not been found as yet. Police are currently searching for the father and have urged anyone who may have information on his whereabouts to contact Crime Stop on 0860 10111.
