HACT’s action-packed tourney for women

The netball trophy went to KwaNyuswa team while the Molweni team walked away as the soccer champs.

THE Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust hosted a sports event for middle-aged women from Highway communities at the Christiansburg Stadium in Clermont on Friday, (23 August).

The event gave women aged between 30 and 54 the opportunity to participate in the exciting games which are usually planned for the grannies.

HACT’s Gogo Support Programme manager, Cwengi Myeni, said she feels women between those ages are usually forgotten about. “There are so many projects and activities aimed at uplifting young people and the grannies but nothing for that age group.

Cwengi said the reality is that middle-aged women also face many challenges such as unemployment. “These women end up drinking to forget problems. There is nothing that stimulates them.”

The women said they have been motivated to go to their communities and recruit other women and were very happy to also get attention and be able to take part in the exciting sports event which was planned by the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust.

The grannies from the HACT’s Gogo Support Programme also came out in numbers to support this event with others joining in the fun and proving to have more skills compared to the younger generation.
