Learners make magic on stage

The senior primary school learners at Thomas More College invite you to watch them cover Fame in their latest stage production.

FOR more than 30 years, Fame has been a firm favourite among audiences and now you can watch Thomas More College’s senior primary school learners take on the classic on Thursday, 22 and Friday, 23 August from 6pm.

Set in 1984, the last year of real-life New York City’s High School for the Performing Arts on 46th Street, Fame the Musical is a bittersweet but ultimately inspiring story of a diverse group of students as they commit to four years of grueling artistic and academic work.

With candour, humour and insight, the show explores the issues that confront many young people.

Whether in the 1980s or the 2020s, the same plethora of issues are found surrounding young people: prejudice, identity, self-worth, literacy, perseverance, significance, insecurities, passion and other thought-provoking social issues that this stage show successfully addresses, through its music, drama and dance.

“Our passionate and talented cast have worked relentlessly to prepare this musical for you. The last few weeks has been a true test of grit and gratitude. I dare say the script actually mirrored each character and their personal struggles quite realistically as they, too, had to persevere amidst challenges and difficulties of their demanding schedules,” said the school’s admissions and marketing co-ordinator, Juliet Hartley.

Tickets cost R70 per adult and R50 per child and will also be available at the door, using Zapper or cash.

Seats will not be reserved and first-come-first-served will apply.
