Women’s race attracts top athletes

HOSTED across three cities on Friday, 9 August on National Women’s Day, the Totalsports Women’s Race has attracted a stellar line-up of female athletes including the likes of Jenna Challenor and Jenet Dlamini in Durban.
No stranger to the Totalsports Women’s Race, Jenna secured gold at the Durban event in 2013.
My 12-year-old daughter won her first 5km race last year, making the Totalsports Women’s Race really special to me,” she said.
“It is an honour to run for those who are fighting for their lives. I have lost a few friends to cancer so it is close to my heart. The atmosphere on race day is electric. It really is a fun morning out among so many beautiful women. I have no expectations as I have been training for longer distances, but I am looking forward to getting some speed back into the legs.”

Although Glenrose Xaba obtained gold at the Totalsports Women’s Race in Durban in 2018, she had to settle for second place in Johannesburg, behind Mamorallo Tjoka in the same year. For the first time since the event’s inception in 2001, the Totalsports Women’s Race will take place on the same day across three cities in 2019. As a result, Xaba had to choose between the three races and Johannesburg came out tops.
