Car show displays veteran vehicles

Classic cars will be on show at the Hillcrest High Car Show.

PETROLHEADS are in for a treat on Sunday, 28 July from 8am to 4.30pm when the Veteran Car Club Kloof hosts its popular Hillcrest High Car Show, 40 Ridge Road, Hillcrest.

The Veteran Car Club has been around for 65 years and the club’s history is just as rich as the vintage vehicles and motorcycle’s that will be exhibited for the public.
Event organiser, John Booth, said how rewarding the show is.

“The most rewarding aspect is to see people from all ages come together to celebrate the age of the car. The show attracts people from all over the country. It is also a day where small business can display their wares. People just mingle and enjoy the day in a relaxed country atmosphere.”

Booth said visitors can expect to see a range of cars from the early 1900s up to modern day cars.

“We have various model racing cars and die-cast models, also model trains. There will be classic motorcycles on display and a few events where people can see the old cars in action.”

The show is versatile and caters well to anyone who wants to feel nostalgic about classic vehicles and appreciate its beauty.
A classic vehicle enthusiast who will attend the Hillcrest High Car show is 23-year-old Nathan Lindsey who drives a yellow vintage 1975 Audi 100 Coupe S. He said he appreciates the character of a vintage vehicle.

“It’s down to character for me, it’s a pure driving experience – whereas a modern car is too automated, there’s no character to a modern car,” he said. “A modern car is just something you buy that gets you from A to B and it depreciates. There may be a lot of quirks to owning a classic car but I enjoy it all. I enjoy working on them and fixing them up”.

There’s a wide range of vehicles on offer during the show.

“This year we will feature Citroen, Rover and other cars. However, the show will be well-represented by other makes such as Morris, MG, Triumph to name a few,” said Booth.

There will be a parade of cars through the ages, a food and beer garden, drummies, a steeldrum band and displays of cars.
