Nagle Dam the setting for a breath-taking Challenge

The 1000 Hills challenge returns for its 8th year.

The 1000 Hills Challenge trail run will be taking place on Sunday 28 July, this event which has gained a national following, goes into its 8th year in 2019 and attracts increasing numbers of trail runners and walkers with each subsequent staging of the event.

The 1000 Hills Challenge is one of KZN Trail Runnings “Big 6” events – these are premier events that make the bucket list of many a trail runner due to their exceptional offerings. The event offers a number of different distances to choose from; the flagship event being the 38km ultra which provides a serious challenge to even the most seasoned of trail runners.

It circumnavigates the entire Nagle Dam as well as exploring some of the surrounding valleys and hills. Also on offer is a testing 20km which will reward in equal measure with stunning scenery and sense of accomplishment.  For those who looking for a more moderate offering the 10km will still ask questions but is a less strenuous outing.

As a means of making the event more family friendly a 5km was added in the last couple of years and has proved greatly popular, a fantastic way for the whole family to get out onto the trail and into the beauty of nature! In keeping with family-focused day of fun, the KZN Trail Running race village ideally situated alongside the water’s edge will be fully loaded with  food, catering for most needs and wants, refreshing drinks and coffee.

There will also be  the KZNTR KidZone (for kiddies 2 years and older) and will be in action for the morning so that parents can get out on to the trails knowing that their little ones will be entertained and in safe hands.

There are  several on site accommodation options available ranging from “glamping” to self-camping.
