Cycling is a family affair at the Moolmans’

Warren and Evan have a long term goal of joining a world tour team one day.

GRADE 10 Westville Boys’ High learner, Warren Moolman, was crowned the U17 boys champ in the time trial and received a 6th place in the 80km road race at the Youth SA Champs for road cycling.

His brother, Evan Moolman, a Grade 7 learner at the Westville Senior Primary, got a fourth place in the time trial losing out on podium by only three seconds. He then managed 10th place in his 59km road race for boys U15.

The time trial took place on Saturday, 22 June at Lion Park and the road race took place in Westville on Sunday, 23 June.

The Moolman siblings started riding bikes at a very early age as their parents are also cyclists and were always at the races on weekends when they were little.

“Both have a long term goal of joining a world tour team one day and would be honoured to represent the country at the Olympics one day,” said their mom, Isabel.

Warren and Evan share a very strong bond as brothers and are very supportive of each other.

“Evan is so very proud of his brother’s SA title and Warren is just as proud of his brother making it into the under 13 PADSA rugby side this year.

For the Moolmans, cycling is a family passion, “we are all members of the Westville cycle club and have been for years. It is more like a family than a club,” said Isabel.

The siblings’ next big goal is when they leave for the Netherlands in two weeks time and compete in the European Junior Cycle Tour.
