Villagers smash UKZN Durban
The Hillcrest Villagers' Rugby Club's 1st, 2nd and 3rd XVs will all compete in away games this weekend.
THE Turaco Energy-Hillcrest Villagers 3rd XV hosted UKZN-Durban for a gruelling KZNRU 4th Division Fowden Bowl encounter on Friday evening at the Durban Shongweni Club.
UKZN brought along an extraordinary strong side, however the Villagers dominated the first half and bludgeoned the opposition with four unanswered tries, scored by Michael Moxley (2), Brian Lewis and Ruben Goosen.
These were converted by Cliffton Bridge to lead the local team to 28 – 0.

The second half saw the Villagers defend against a hard-hitting UKZN side. UKZN scored two converted tries to knock the score to 28 – 14, with 20 mins remaining. The Villagers proved they were far from done and dug deep to reassert themselves and scored another two well-worked tries by Nico Breedt and Karl Ludick. Both tries were converted by Cliffton Bridge. The Villagers claimed victory with a final score of 42 – 14.
Man of the Match (forwards) went to Nico Breedt and Ryan Hartmannsgruber (backline).
The Villagers’ 3rd XV will take on the Reservoir Hills Rhinos on Saturday, 15 June in an away game.
The Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers 1st and 2nd XVs will play an away game against the PMB Collegians at Woodburn Stadium this Saturday afternoon.
