Kind Xolani gives from his heart

Xolani Ngcobo has a soft spot for disabled people and always donate his small change to various charities.

A DASSENHOEK resident is proof of the saying, ‘a little can go a long way.’

Although Xolani Ngcobo lives from hand to mouth, he has a big heart and always donates his small change to charities.

The down-to-earth Xolani said he has a soft spot for disabled people, pets and vulnerable children.

Recently, he donated his money-box savings to Pet Shop Vet2Vet Deli in the Pick n Pay centre Hillcrest and indicated that he wanted his savings to go for the benefit of crippled children.

The money was then donated to South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA) as they provide therapeutic riding lessons free of charge to children from various special needs schools.

Xolani started working as a maintenance guy at McDonalds in Hillcrest and has been a regular donor of small change at the pet shop. “I have been donating small change for a while now, but since I started working, I have now had a chance of doing it more often.

“Whenever I see a person or a money-box outside a shop I always donate my small change.”

He has even received a letter of appreciation last year from the pet shop for his good gesture.

“Everyone can make a difference, you do not need thousands of Rands to make a change. Some people would question why I donate towards helping the disabled when they receive grant money from the government, it comes from the heart and disabled people need to be feel loved,” said Xolani.

He said his older brother also had mental health issues and was lucky to receive help which he believes is the reason he has such empathy towards the disabled and vulnerable.

Volunteer at SARDA, Mary Nel, said they were truly touched by Xolani’s good gesture.

“Each and every person can make a change and we appreciate this donation as every bit helps, genuinely,” she said.
