St Mary’s create a magical night of music
Funds raised on the evening will be used to empower the children at the Ingane Yami Children's Village in Shongweni.
THE hall at St Mary’s DSG was packed to the brim with for the spectacular Two Schools, One Heart fund-raiser.
Supporters were treated to the incredible sounds of Hilton College and St Mary DSG’s musicians and featured a wide array of talented soloists, the school choirs, orchestra’s and marimba bands.
Brett Udal, the music director at Hilton College, said he would use his love for music to make a difference to the Ingane Yami Children’s Village.
Three years and two successful events later, Brett wanted to collaborate his efforts with Lindy van der Meulen and the St Marys DSG Music Department, and turn the annual Two Schools concert into one with a social impact.

The connection with St Mary’s was the obvious next step, as St Mary’s was also involved in the life of the village through their Grade 8s, as well as Savannah Scoular, who volunteered her time to teach the children how to play the Marimbas.
Ingane Yami (My Child) Children’s Village is a permanent, loving home for orphaned and vulnerable children.
The Village is based in the Shongweni Valley and consists of individual homes, and each one belongs to a carefully selected foster mother and six children. The families are supported holistically with on-site facilities that include a school and creche.
“We are blown away by the generosity of Hilton College and St Mary’s DSG in putting in so much energy and effort to create funding and awareness for our children at Ingane Yami,” said the marketing and fund-raising officer, Patricia Deacon.
Patricia also thanked the sponsors and supporters of the event. The funds raised from the performance will go towards rewriting the stories of the children at Ingane Yami.
