Pavilion’s search for young chefs begin

If you have a child aged between nine and 12 years old and has a passion and flair for cooking, then Pavilion Chef Competition is looking for you.

A VERY successful junior chef competition, held at the Pavilion in 2018, is returning this year.

The Junior Chef Competition for children between the ages of nine to 12 years is a live digital reality show, a first for South Africa.

The competition was launched officially on Thursday, 23 May.

The judges, also present during the official launch, said watching youngsters cooking with so much confidence was very inspiring.

“It is not easy even for adults to cook on camera, while being interviewed and surrounded by a huge audience at the same time, and nothing is scripted. These children were so fearless and we hope that other children can be inspired to follow their dreams and things they are passionate about with confidence,” said print, radio and television journalist, Terence Pillay who hosts the competition.

Last year’s winner, Westville Senior Primary School’s Neyah Mahabeer (12) said she had lots of fun and was excited to be chosen as a winner as she walked away with lots of presents which included a trip to Cape Town.

“I learnt to cook from my parents and I am in the kitchen most of the time helping them. So many things were happening around me during the cook-off, but being calm helped me stay focussed,” she said.

Her father, Sham, was also a contestant in the first MasterChef SA competition in 2012, “If you want to be a good cook you need to have passion for it,” he said.

Parents who have children with a flair for cooking can send a video showing their child’s skill and personality in the kitchen via WhatsApp to 066 077 1311.

Entries close on 26 July and there are great prizes, including a holiday for four to Mauritius valued at R70 000 and an Elba gas-electric stove.
