Hearty donation to Hillcrest Hospital stews oodles of love

The stew contained enough meat and veggies to feed the 140 patients as well as the staff at Hillcrest Hospital.

A COMMUNITY driven initiative saw the patients and staff at Hillcrest Hospital receive a rather wholesome, hearty treat last week.

Anne Collinge, a 31 Club member and an avid supporter of the hospital, partnered with Ernie Young and Rob Carpenter of the Veteran Car Club as well as Molecular Diagnostic Services to provide the tasty meal.

Chantel Harper of Molecular Diagnostic Services said the company was eager to be involved in the initiative and readily supplied the extensive list of ingredients as part of its charity and social committee initiative.

Rob Carpenter, Ernie Young and Cynthia Shabane slaved away in the kitchen for hours on end to prep the meal that contained 15kgs of lamb, two pockets of potatoes, four packets of carrots, 4kgs of peas as well as an assortment of beans, broccoli, leak and onion. There was enough in the over-sized pot to feed the 140 patients and the dedicated staff at the hospital.

“It is absolutely amazing that the public pulled together to make this happen. This is a real treat for the patients and they are so excited,” said Anne.
