15 injured in serious school taxi crash near Hillcrest

A total of 15 people, 14 of whom are school children and one of whom was the driver of the other vehicle, were injured.

EMERGENCY medical personnel rushed to the scene of a serious head-on collision involving a vehicle transporting children to school on Monday morning in Ngwele Road, near Hillcrest.

According to Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson of ambulance service, Rescue Care, it’s believed a school taxi and vehicle collided in the accident which resulted in multiple casualties.

“Assistance has been acquired and the Lenmed1 aeromedical helicopter has taken off to assist while multiple ambulances are mobile in the direction as well,” said Jamieson adding that further updates would be shared as they become available.

The single driver of the vehicle has since been airlifted and the roadway was obstructed as at 9am with traffic being severely affected.
