Westville’s hidden treasures await new homes

There is quite literally something for everyone at the new Hidden Treasure Charity Shop in Westville.

UNWANTED items don’t always end up as extra additions to a rubbish heap, and many of these discarded, good quality objects find their way onto shelves, awaiting the day they become someone else’s treasure.

One such store that houses dozens of these pieces is Hidden Treasure at the Salamanca Centre in Westville.

The non-profit organisation forms part of a national chain of charity shops, and the Westville branch – the only one in KwaZulu-Natal, opened its doors at the beginning of February.

It sells previously loved goods; everything from furniture, appliances, clothing, CDs and DVDs, sporting equipment, jewellery and much more. The proceeds of their sales go towards community development and each store supports different organisations.

The local branch supports missions from the Westville Baptist Church and CAST (Church Alliance for Social Transformation).

The store is immaculate as the friendly volunteer staff members spend their time ensuring that each object has been priced and sorted and neatly packed onto one of the many shelves or tables. The quaint store is open from 9am to 5pm on week days and on Saturday from 9am until 1pm.

“All donations are welcome, from earrings to lipstick,” smiled the overseer of the store, Rona Austwick.
