Pinetown SAPS visit seniors

The elderly residents were advised to walk in groups as they are easy targets for criminals.

THE senior citizens from Fairydene Retirement Village in Stapleton Road had a special visit from Pinetown SAPS and CPF members to give them tips on how to avoid becoming crime victims.

Pinetown CPF chairman, Tony da Canha, said the elderly residents are usually the easy targets as they can not fight back.

“They should not carry expensive things and should avoid walking alone, rather go out in groups, it is much safer,” he said.

W/O Muzi Maphumulo, from Pinetown SAPS crime prevention, also advised them to lock the doors and make sure the windows are properly closed when driving through Pinetown intersections which are hotspots.

He pleaded with them to report all kinds of crime, “Even when you are being abused by someone here in the home, you should report it, no one has a right to abuse another person.”

Maphumulo urged residents to also attend CPF meetings in their areas so that they can know the hotspots and new crime trends.
