Pinetown Cluster communications officer, Capt Bongumusa Manqele, said on 13 June 2017, a New Germany man and his family were leaving for work when they were approached by three gunmen who wore balaclavas.

“They demanded the Mercedes Benz the victim was driving and also took his wallet. Before driving off, they first asked the victim to show them how to operate the car. The police were alerted and they started searching for the car. They caught up with the suspect while he was still cruising in Clermont Road,” said Manqele.

Sigadla was arrested and police linked him to another hijacking which took place at Fennen Extension in Clermont in 2016. He was subsequently found guilty on all counts by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
