Villagers rake in double weekend win

The Land Rover Durban - Hillcrest Villagers Rugby Club played against the Ballito Dolphins and Amanzimtoti last week.

THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers Rugby Club took on the Ballito Dolphins, at the Durban Shongweni Club on Saturday afternoon in a KZNRU First Division return fixture.

In the 2nd XV game, the Villagers’ showed an early dominance and only one unconverted try was scored against them.

The team began a race into an unassailable lead, finishing the game with a comprehensive 27 – 5 win.

Man of the Match went to Tyson Ngubane (forwards) and Caleb Rowland (backs).

The 1st XV game proved that the visitors had arrived with the clear purpose of causing an upset.

From the outset, Ballito were on the front foot, contesting well at rucks and mauls and stunning spectators by drawing first blood.

Just before halftime, the Villagers clawed back to level the score at the break.

In the second half, the home side turned on the heat and established a steady and continuous rise in their score.

A memorable moment in this half of the game was an 80m break away try scored by Hillcrest flank, Sky Tshabalala.

The second half convincingly belonged to the home side, with the final result going the way of Villagers, 31-7.

Man of the Match went to Kyle Spowart (forwards) and JP Brown (backs).

Envirosan Hillcrest Villagers 3rd XV played the Toti 3rd XV in Amanzimtoti on Friday night.

Toti threw everything they had at the Villagers in the first half, with the visitors leading 13 – 10 at the break.

Toti replied early into the second half with three tries.

Despite a strong finish, the Villagers lost 17 – 27. Man of the Match was Daniel Ferguson (forwards) and Andries Botha (backs).

The Villagers’ 1st and 2nd XVs will play against the Jaguars RC at away games in Sydeham on Saturday, 16 June.

The 2nd XV game will kick off at 1.30pm and the 1st XV game will start at 5pm.

The Hillcrest 3rds will play Westville at Westville Old Boys on Friday night at 7pm.
