THE Land Rover Durban – Hillcrest Villagers Rugby Club travelled to Howard College Stadium on Saturday afternoon to face off against UKZN in their KZNRU first division encounter.

In the 2nd XV match, a strong Villagers side held their own against a spirited UKZN team which delivered a physical challenge to the visitors.

Towards the end of the first half, Hillcrest’s attack opened up UKZN’s defences and they began to pile on a try count.

By end of game, the scoreboard read 18 – 5 to the Villagers. Man of the Match went to Wandile Shelembe (forwards) and Mathew Cele (backline).

Once again, the Villagers were required to dig deep to regain their dominance and composure. The visitors then ascended into a commanding lead during the second half, but not before UKZN clawed back at the deficit. At the blow of the final whistle, the Villagers had won the game 34 – 27.
