Kieran to multiply his math knowledge

Thomas More College's primary school SPAR Star of the Month - April 2018.

KIERAN Pearton, a Grade 7 learner at Thomas More College, is its primary school SPAR Star of the Month.

He recently took part in an International Mathematics Assessment for Schools (IMAS) exam and, following a second round of exams, has been invited to join the KZN team representing South Africa at the 2018 International Mathematics Competition in Burgas, Bulgaria.

The eight learners from KZN participating in the elementary school division will travel to Burgas in the first week of July.

They will participate in both individual and team events, as well as have the opportunity to present their own culture and experience other cultures from the other countries participating in the event.

A day in Instanbul on the way back home after the competition will give the delegates an even greater cultural experience.

“Kieran has always had an affinity for numbers and is very excited about the prospect of this opportunity to extend his maths knowledge and meet other people both locally and internationally who share his enthusiasm,” said his mom, Karin.

Besides his love for numbers, Kieran is an active sportsman, loves his drumming and is currently preparing to grade for his Junior Black belt in karate.
