Besties in the dog box

For 24 hours, Shane Cox , Pierre Venter-Maher and other participants will be locked up in a kennel for the Kloof and Highway SPCA's annual Dog Box Challenge to raise funds.

SHANE Cox will take part in his third SPCA Dog Box Challenge, this time joined by his long term friend, Pierre Venter-Maher, to keep the memory of his sister alive,

Shane’s sister, Cherise Cox, suffered for 10 years after being shot on duty serving and protecting the community against hijackers.

For 24 hours, Shane, Pierre and other participants will be locked up in a kennel for the Kloof and Highway SPCA’s annual Dog Box Challenge to raise funds.

The duo, who also served the dog unit for many years, have come up with different plans and strategies to raise the R10 000 to be released from the kennel.

Pierre said this is not just any challenge as animals are very close to his heart.

“It’s important to support causes like the SPCA who take in stray animals remembering we adopt many of our pets from them.

“I had a Jack Russell who had to be put down here at the SPCA after 18 beautiful years spent together. His life started and finished here,” he said

Shane said events like the Dog Box Challenge enables special projects to be held such as the microchip and rabies drive coming up and the outreach programmes.

He said they still have along way to go to reach their first target of R10 000 but every cent counts, whether it’s R5, R10, R50 or R100.

“Kloof and Highway SPCA supports so many animals and it takes a lot of hard work from a dedicated management team, amazing staff and wonderful volunteers. But without support from the community these special people cannot perform their functions properly.”

The challenge will start from Friday, 25 May at noon to Saturday, 26 May at 12pm and people are invited to support this worthy cause.

Woodcutters in Kloof have signed up again this year to donate 10 per cent of the day’s making on Saturday, 26 May.

“Let us all make a difference together,” said the determined besties.
