The cover is absolutely beautiful as it is embossed with bronze leaf, while the pages that follow are filled with more of the author’s quirky, yet somewhat dark, illustrations.
The story follows the self-absorbed little wizard, Xar, and his followers as they embark on an epic quest to catch a witch.
Fate, however, has other things planned and instead of capturing a master of dark arts, he nabs himself one of the wizard tribes’ mortal enemies – a warrior.
Her name is Wish, the daughter of the infamous warrior queen, Sychorax.

The duo are thrust together on an epic journey to save their world from the return of the fabled and supposedly extinct witches.
As I have not read a picture book with an adjoining ‘deep’ story line in quote a long, long while, it was initially quite a distraction for me to have images splashed across each page.
In my opinion the book hits a market that is the bridge between picture books and JK Rowling’s Harry Potter or Jessica Townsend’s Nevermoor.
It is the perfect book to read along with your children before bed time as the story is engaging and the text and dialogue are easy to bring to life with a few accents.
