Fabulous reads – Uncover dark secrets in new series

Book review - Crime Scene by Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman.

Crime Scene (Clay Edison #1), Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781472238474

Clay Edison is a deputy sheriff at the coroner’s office and his job is to categorise each death.

Natural causes or foul play? Murder or accident?

A seemingly straight forward case has Clay stumped and, though investigating is not his responsibility, he takes a special interest in the case of Walter Rennert.

First impressions all point to the death being accidental as the body was found at the bottom of a staircase and all factors point to a fall.

But it’s the discovery of anti-psychotic pills that shouldn’t be there that sets off a few alarm bells.

The firearm in his office that shouldn’t exist raises questions and what should he make of the strange giant of a man he keeps seeing in all the wrong places? Could this be a simple open and shut case?

When Rennert’s daughter arrives on the scene and suggests murder, Edison hesitates.

Clay finds himself involved in an old closed murder case that, even to his eyes, doesn’t add up.

The two cases are interlinked and it’s up to Clay to figure out why.

This is the first of the Clay Edison series and as opening novels go, this is a fantastic thriller.

Clay is a likeable and multi-faceted character with a practical and logical head on his shoulders.

Brilliant writing from this father and son team.

An absolute five stars for the start of a series with endless possibilities.
