Keep complex access codes a secret, warn Malvern police

A number of VW Polo's have been stolen from complexes and homes in the Malvern area.

MALVERN SAPS has noticed a growing trend of VW Polo’s being stolen from complexes and homes in the Malvern area. In the latest incident which took place on Tuesday, 27 March a car of this model was stolen.

“Access into complexes seems to be less stringent than expected and to avoid incessant hooting at the gate, residents themselves open the gates without checking who is waiting to enter,” said Malvern SAPS communications officer, W/O Radhika Marimuthu.

According to W/O Marimuthu, when security is compromised not only is the property at risk, but also the lives of residents. Codes can be easily given in day-to-day random conversation by people who may not think holistically of the risks involved.

An appeal is made to complex residents, as well as the owners of free standing homes, to stop giving out security codes, gate codes and alarm combinations to service providers as this places their lives and property under threat.

Station Commander, Lt-Col Reddy cautioned residents to heed to the warnings provided as this can protect your property and save a life.
