Jes Foord Foundation appeals for second-hand bakkie

The foundation is currently limited on how much they can do because of the transport issue.

THE Jes Foord Foundation, which focuses on empowering rape survivors through support, awareness and education, is appealing for a small second-hand bakkie to help reach more communities.

The foundation has set their target to reach 110 000 learners within their surrounding and outlying communities for their awareness campaign for 2018, Learners Awareness Impact Programme.

“The message taught in this campaign focuses on what to do if you are raped and reiterates the no means no message and the importance of consent,” said Jes Foord.

The Jes Foord Foundation’s passion to reach learners has been amazing over the last few years with the staff using their own vehicles or relying on public transport to get to the early morning assemblies to be able to reach learners with this message, and last year the Foundation was able to reach more than 40 000 learners.

Foord said she is always in awe when she finds out what lengths the team have gone to ensure that they are able to reach learners in their outlying communities.

“I just know how many more learners we could reach if we were not held back with transport issues. Even for the delivery of rape comfort bags to our local Thuthuzela Centres and other partners, my dad hooks up his trailer and he then takes the sometimes arduous journeys to deliver for us.”

Foord said they are currently limited on how much they can do because of the transport issue and they have an appeal out at the moment to help them get a small second-hand bakkie.

“Tina Le Roux has started an amazing campaign to help us raise funds for a vehicle through ‘Go get funding’- https://gogetfunding.com/the-jes-foord-foundation-needs-a-vehicle/ which is such a fantastic way for anyone to contribute towards our vehicle,” said Foord.
