Librarian, Thandeka Mbatha, said as a library it their duty to promote writers because if there are no books, there are no libraries.

“We also invited learners from New Germany Primary School and Buhlebemfundo Secondary School to the launch as we always encourage learners to read books. New Germany Library learners took part in our creative writing competition last year and did very well. Learners need to be taught at an early age to read as they cannot write if they cannot read,” said Mbatha.

About the authors

Samkelo Dlamini is a 22-year-old from Umlazi whose book, Like Nothing Else Exists was inspired by the challenges he has faced throughout his life. Dlamini started writing at the age of 18 and this is his first book. The book talks about love and social issues.

Anjaana Juggan-Aheer from Umbilo said working at the cath lab (catheterization laboratory) inspired her to write this book, Cath Lab Made Easy. This is her first book which details heart problems. She said she wanted to make people aware of the signs and symptoms to look out for.

Sithembiso Hlophe is a New Germany accomplished author as Be Inspired is his fourth book. He said his book covers different aspects of life such as marriage, personal or business related issues. “With this book I aim to inspire and make a positive contribution to people’s lives and give hope. People need to know that in life there is always another chance no matter what their situation might be at that particular time,” said Hlophe.
