Motala Heights welcomes first CPF

The CPF members highlighted a few of the problems currently faced by the community and urge residents to report every instance of crime to the local SAPS. Local resident, Ashley Govender was elected as the group's first chairman.

AFTER several attempts over a five-year period, Motala Heights residents and stakeholders recently started a community policing forum and elected Ashley Govender as its first chairman, Bruce Pillay as vice chairman and Shenaaz Moodley as its secretary.

Govender and community anti-crime activist, Justin Bosse, revealed shocking details of continuous drug-related criminal activity in Motala Heights.

“It appears that young schoolchildren were being targeted and forced into transporting drugs for drug merchants in the area. There has also been an increase in house breakings in the area,” said DA PR councillor for Wards 13 and 15, Marlaine Nair.

Justin Bosse called on the community to fight to eradicate their area from the scourge of drugs and crime by reporting crime and working closely with the newly elected CPF.

Nair expressed concern for the future of the children involved and assured the forum that she would assist in any possible way.

Nair, who was hijacked at gunpoint weeks before, said an increased effort must be made to put criminals behind bars. She vowed not to hesitate to take matters up to the highest structures, should the need arise.

The school governing body chairman, Billy Hoosen, welcomed the CPF members and pledged to work hand-in-hand with them.
