Fabulous reads – Bone-chiller will ensnare you

Book review - Here and Gone by Haylen Beck.

Here and Gone, Haylen Beck, Penguin Random House, ISBN: 9781911215592

Stuart Neville (aka, Heylen Beck) has branched out from his Jack Lennon series to grace us with his latest thriller, Here and Gone.

Audra is on the run from her diabolical abusive husband and is constantly on the lookout and wary of any law enforcement.

She couldn’t wait for the custody battle, she had to leave when she did, she just had to.

As she’s driving along a deserted road in Arizona, a much worse threat sneaks in and disrupts her life.

Audra is arrested by the sheriff for planted drugs and is taken into custody.

Her children, Sean (11) and Louise (3) are taken from her by another police officer.

When she arrives at the police station she is absolultey frantic and queries the whereabouts of her children.

The sheriff’s response is bone chilling – ‘what children?’

Miles away, Danny Lee watches as the nation searches for her missing children.

The FBI is involved and the local law enforcement are demanding to know where Audra has hidden them.

It begs the question, what did she do with her kids?

I can only describe this as a horrific look at human nature as this thriller delves into the underworld hidden from the innocent.

The vulnerability to evil is apparent to all as we watch Audra’s ordeal unfold.

We have the advantage of knowing exactly who the bad guys right from the start – but that just gives the writer that much more time to expand on their intentions.

This novel gave me the heebie-jeebies.
