Highway Hospice gauge back on green

The non-profit organisation thanked the Highway community for rising to the challenge to ensure a good start to 2018.

THE Highway Hospice recently challenged the Highway community to help keep their shops going by supporting their donation drive which was a huge success.

Highway Hospice’s Sheryl de Jager said tough economic conditions have had a huge impact on funding and ultimately the extent of support that they are able to provide to terminally ill patients in their care.

Highway Hospice has since 1982 provided a vital service to the terminally ill in the community.

“We challenged the Highway community to help ‘keep us on the road’ by supporting our donation drive which took place at Hospice shops from 4 to 9 December.

“We hoped to secure 150 donations from the community. A gauge was installed at the Pinetown shop to monitor progress. We desperately needed help to get the gauge into the green to ensure a good start to 2018,” said de Jager.

She said 4 December saw the drive getting off to a fantastic start.

“In excess of 30 donations were dropped off at the various shops. Despite the bad weather the gauge continued to climb throughout the week. Saturday saw us exceeding our original target and we finished the drive with a total of 161 donations.”

De Jager extended a massive thank you to the Highway community for rising to the challenge in such a positive and enthusiastic way.

“Your generosity has helped to get us off the starting blocks in 2018. We are truly part of an incredible community and know that we can count on your continued support on the road ahead,” she added.
