Yolanda shines on international catwalks

Kloof Senior Primary School learner, Yolanda, hopes to pick up a role in a Nickelodeon show in a few year's time.

KLOOF Senior Primary School’s Yolanda Mthiyane raked in a medley of international awards during her recent time abroad.

Her first overseas adventure began in Europe for the Little Miss and Mister Planet 2017, which Yolanda confessed was both exciting and nerve wracking.

While language may have caused a slight barrier, she was glad to have made a lot of friends during her time there.

She won the title and was invited to be one of the judges in next year’s competition.

“It was a tough time coming back as the friends I made there cried because they really wanted me to stay in Bulgaria,” said Yolanda.

The jet-setter also touched down in New York, then flew to Orlando for the ARTS Applause Rising Talent Showcase.

She won the swimsuit model section at this competition and jetted back to New York for one evening before coming back home to South Africa.

“Times Square is beautiful at night,” said a dreamy-eyed Yolanda. “I also got to go shopping and it was magnificent there!”

She received 12 call-backs and was given a book on acting by Bob Cooke.

Her biggest news came in the form of a possible character on a Nickelodeon show as middle school student.

“They described me as a ‘bubbly, humble child’ and my look and personality would be great on one of those shows,” said the aspiring actor.

The specific roles are only up for grabs in five years’ time and Yolanda said these were goals she would be working towards and was most excited for.

“I really love watching TV so I always see my favourite characters.

Debby Ryan has inspired me, as a model and as an actress,” said Yolanda.
