eThekwini festive season launch

The launch will end with the ceremonious lighting of the Christmas lights along Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Street.

ETHEKWINI Municipality will be launching the festive season campaign in grand style by hosting two exciting public events on Tuesday, 12 December.

Beginning at 11am with a motorcade along Oliver Tambo Drive to the Moses Mabhida Stadium, the first Metro Police Day to be held, will kick off festivities for a day filled with fun and action.

Metro Police Day entails an exciting line up of mock demonstrations showcasing the professionalism and skill of the unit.

There will be displays by the Dog Unit, the Mounted Unit, a drill formation, an active combat demonstration, an anti-hijacking and a mock extraction from an accident scenario.

Mayor Zandile Gumede will also launch the Festive season campaign amid the fanfare of the day at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Other essential Municipal services will also be showcase their state of readiness for the festive season through various demonstrations.

The launch will end with the ceremonious lighting of the Christmas lights along Dr Pixley KaSeme (West) Street at 18h00.

The Mayor, Councillor Zandile Gumede will switch on the lights. Then a colourful parade fusing arts, culture and the city services will move from King Dinuzulu Park down Dr Pixley ka Seme Street and end off at City Hall, Church Walk. The parade will offer an opportunity to showcase the City’s urban renewal precinct.

At church walk Mayor will give Christmas gifts to children, singing of Christmas carols and other fun activities. The public is invited to join in the fun. Both events are free.

 

*Metro Police Day and Launch of Festive Season: 11am, Moses Mabhida Stadium (motorcade will start at Silversands Resort next to uShaka Marine World at 11am.

Transport to the starting point will leave from Moses Mabhida Stadium at 10.30am.)

*Lighting of Christmas lights: 6pm, City Hall, Church Walk (parade will start at King Dinuzulu Park at 6pm. Transport to the starting point will leave from

City Hall at 5.30pm.)
